Alex Kultgen finished his fifth year as assistant swimming and diving coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2017-18.
Since Kultgen joined the staff in 2013, the Warhawks have recorded 57 school record performances, 32 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference individual championships and eight All-America honors. Both the men's and women's teams have finished among the top four at the WIAC Championships in each of the last five years, including the women's runner-up finish, the program's all-time best, in both 2015 and 2018, and the men's program record-tying runner-up finish in 2016.
Prior to UW-Whitewater, Kultgen served as assistant swimming and diving coach at UW-La Crosse from 2011-13. He helped coach the Eagle women to two WIAC team championships, and helped guide the men's and women's programs to a combined 25 individual and relay conference titles in two seasons. Kultgen was directly responsible for the recruitment of seven NCAA qualifiers.
Kultgen served as head coach at Port Washington High School during the 2010-11 season.
Kultgen's experiences working in athletics are not limited to coaching. He assisted in event management during his time at UW-La Crosse and worked as an intern for Port Washington Parks and Recreation from 2010-11.
In addition to his current role, Kultgen has been the head coach for the Jefferson Area White Sharks Swim Team since May of 2014. He also serves in event management, primarily as a public address announcer, for several UW-Whitewater teams.
Kultgen earned his bachelor's in physical education with a minor in athletic coaching education from UW-Whitewater in 2015 and a master's in professional development (athletic administration emphasis) from UW-Whitewater in 2017.
