Volk Season-by-Season Record

Brenda Volk has been the head coach of the UW-Whitewater softball program since 1999 and is entering her 29th year at the helm in 2026-2027.

During the 2025 season, Volk earned her 800th career win, becoming the only WIAC coach and the 8th active coach in NCAA Division III to achieve this milestone.

Under Volk’s leadership, the Warhawks have captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship 11 times, including 8 times in the past 12 seasons. In addition, Volk has led the Warhawks to 9 WIAC Tournament titles and 16 NCAA Tournament appearances. Volk has been named WIAC Coach of the Year six times during her career. Volk, along with her coaching staff, was also recognized as NFCA Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 1999, 2008 and 2014.

During Volk’s first season, the team won the WIAC championship and set the school record for most wins in a season with 41. Since then, Volk has compiled an overall record of 826-338-5, which is the most wins accumulated by any coach in WIAC history. Entering the 2027 season, Volk is ranked 7th in total victories (826) among active Division III coaches (minimum five years as a head coach) and 17th in winning percentage (.709). Those totals rank 19th and 28th all time, respectively.

The Warhawks posted the program's best ever national finish in 2008, placing second at the NCAA Championship, followed up by a third-place finish in 2014. The Warhawks reached the Super Regionals in both 2018 & 2025, falling one game short of the final 8 in both seasons. Volk has coached numerous All-Americans, All-Region and All-Conference players, including eight WIAC Position Players of the Year and six WIAC Pitchers of the Year.

The Warhawks have been just as successful in the classroom as on the field, maintaining a team grade point average above a 3.0 in 25 of the past 28 seasons. During the 2026 season, every player on the roster finished with a GPA above a 3.0 and 20 student-athletes were selected as Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes (GPA of 3.5 and higher) as the team recorded an impressive 3.69 team GPA. During her time at UW-Whitewater, Volk has had 10 players named WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athletes, as well as eight players who have earned Academic All-American honors.

In 2022, Volk was honored by UW-Whitewater's Women's Issues Committee as a Woman in Leadership as part of the committee's Women's History Month program.

Before assuming the head coaching duties, Volk served as the pitching coach at UW-Whitewater from 1992-1997. In 1998, she taught math and was the head varsity softball coach at Fort Myers (FL) High School, where she was tabbed Conference Coach of the Year. During her collegiate career at UW-Whitewater, Volk was a four-year letter winner and received All-Conference honors in 1990 & 1991 as well as All-Region honors in 1991. Volk was inducted into the UW-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame as a player in 2010. In 1992, Volk received her bachelor's degree in secondary math education with a minor in coaching.
