Garrett Medenwald is in his second year of working with UW-Whitewater men’s and women’s track and field. Coach Medenwald’s responsibility is working with strength and conditioning. Coach Medenwald is constantly bringing positive energy to training sessions and striving to help the student athletes become better in the weight room, on the track, and improving lifestyle choices while making professional relationships with the athletes as well as the staff. Coach Medenwald is currently pursuing his CSCS and USAW Level I professional certifications.
Besides working with the men’s and women’s track and field team, Coach Medenwald is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Health Human Performance and Recreation with a minor in Coaching. Medenwald was a collegiate football and baseball player for the WIAC Champion and NCAA National Runners-up Warhawk football team as well as UW-Stevens Point baseball NCAA fifth place finishing team. During his career he was dedicated to being a student of the game being named “Newcomer of the Year” in football, holding numerous team records in the weight room with cleans, snatch, split jerk, bench press, pro agility, broad jump, vertical jump, 40 yard dash in both sports, and being a role model with performance on and off the field. Olympic Weightlifting has been his next competitive outlet. Besides being a National qualifier in Olympic Weightlifting, he has assisted with the development of a campus Olympic Weightlifting Club with Coach Ireland. Coach Medenwald helps with training athletes, recruit members on campus, and recruiting high school athletes to come to UW-Whitewater for Olympic Weightlifting. His main career goal is to become a strength and conditioning coach.
