Jay Murphy

Jay Murphy enters his second year as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team in 2021.

Murphy begins his position on the Warhawks' staff with 25 years of experience coaching gymnastics. He most recently served as Girls Team Director for Scamps Gymnastics out of Kenosha, where he was responsible for teaching gymnastics levels 6-10, organizing workouts and competition schedules, and making travel arrangements. Murphy held the position for 11 years and was a two-time Wisconsin Club Coach of the Year.

Prior to working with Scamps Gymnastics, Murphy worked for multiple clubs in the Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois Illinois regions, including Salto Gymnastics of Waukesha (2004-07), SpringHill Gymnastics in Elgin, Ill. (2003-04), Airborne Gymnastics in Rockford, Ill. (1998-2003) and Gymnastic Academy of Rockford (1994-98).

Murphy graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1990 with a bachelor's in physical education and a minor in coaching. He was a four-year student-athlete on the Warhawks' track and field team, becoming the first conference champion in the decathlon in program history in 1990.
