Myers Family Wrestling Gymnasium at a Glance

Address: 907 W. Schwager Dr., Whitewater, WI 53190
Opened: 1968
Named After: Willie Myers

The Willie Myers Family Wrestling Center is located in Williams Center, on the second floor with the gymnastics facility and Kachel Gym. The Myers Center provides a year round home for Warhawk wrestling, wrestling camps, classes and activities. In addition to wall-to-wall mats, the area includes an equipment room, All-American photos and displays of notable Warhawk wrestling accomplishments.

Willie Myers guided the UW-W wrestling team for 36 years, retiring in 2004. He directed Whitewater to more WIAC championships, twelve, than any coach in any sport in school history. Myers’ teams also finished in the top twenty of their national championship seventeen times, also unparalleled.

The facility was dedicated January 29, 2005. The Willie Myers Family Wrestling Center is the practice facility for Warhawk wrestling, with home meets in the adjacent Kachel Gym, most recently updated in 2011, or Russell Arena, which opened in 2001. UW-W hosted NCAA regional meets in 1978, 1983, 1986, and 1988 before the qualifying format changed.
