NCAA SB Game 2 Thursday

Box Score

A four run fourth inning keyed Luther College's 6-4 win over Carthage College Thursday in the Whitewater Regional.  Junior catcher Alyse Mikolas cracked her fourth home run of the season, scoring three to put Carthage in front in the bottom of the second.  Senior second baseman Elisa Smith singled to left center in the top of the third to put Luther on the board, trailing 3-1.  In the fourth, sophomore shortstop Katie Wieland singled in a pair of runs to tie the game and senior centerfielder Shari Huber's third home run of the season accounted for two more to give the Norse a 5-3 lead.  The Lady Reds pulled within 5-4 on senior designated hitter Amy Slattery's solo shot, number two on the season, in the fifth, but sophomore first baseman Alise Miller led off the sixth with her fourth round-tripper in 2013 to get that run back and end the scoring.

Huber and Miller had two hits apiece to account for half of the Luther total.  Carthage had four hits.  Luther's Becca Girvan, 19-5, allowed four earned runs on four hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.  Krystina Leazer, 21-5, surrendered six earned runs on eight hits, with one walk and a pair of strikeouts in taking the loss.

Luther, 29-9, will play UW-Whitewater, 32-5 and a 6-1 winner over Finlandia University in Thursday's first game, Friday at 2:00.  Carthage, 30-11, will play Finlandia, 25-6, at 10:00 Friday in the double elimination tournament.
