NCAA Softball, Game 10, Carthage IWU

Long time CCIW rivals Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage met again Saturday, with Carthage winning 4-3 in the Whitewater Regional of the NCAA III tournament.

Carthage scored first, pushing two runs across in the bottom of the third inning on a home run by junior rightfielder Corrine Sheley.  Immediately, in their next at bat, IWU tied it at 2-2, with a ground ball out and sacrifice fly plating the runs.  In the bottom of the fourth, Carthage responded with two runs in its next at bat, with the Lady Reds using an error and a sacrifice fly registering the runs batted in and putting Carthage up 4-2.  Senior centerfielder Keri Leach got IWU closer, 4-3, with a one out single in the fifth. 

Krystina Leazer, 23-5 went the distance to earn the victory for Carthage.  She gave up six hits, walked three, and struck out six.  Molly McCready, 12-4, took the loss with four innings of work for the Titans.  Alyssa Vorel was gave one hit and no runs in her two innings of relief for McGready.  Junior shortstop Katie Morman had two of the five Carthage hits.  Wesleyan designated hitter Allie Riordan stroked two of IWU's six hits.

Carthage, 32-11, will play again Friday, facing UW-Eau Claire, 28-8, at 6:00.  Illinois Wesleyan finishes the year 32-11.
