Ohio Northern defeated Concordia (WI) 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament Friday at the Wangerin Courts in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
The number two doubles team of Josh Saunders and John Mostowy of ONU was the first doubles team to finish with an 8-4 victory over Russell Johnson and Terry Jones of Concordia. Saunders and Mostowy improve to 16-1 as a doubles team this season. Three doubles was a closer match with Blake Troller and Sam Prewitt of ONU pulling away with a 9-7 win over Antoine Leon and Garrett Wells. The top doubles flight was closer yet with Do Thai and Joey Frank topping Taylor Shaffer and Skip Turner 9-8 (7-4).
Mostowy and Troller won at four and five singles, respectively, each with a score of 6-1, 6-1 to give the Polar Bears the 5-0 victory.
Ohio Northern advances to play Trinity (TX) in the second round on Saturday at 3 pm at Wangerin Courts in Whitewater.
