WHITEWATER, WI -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team hosted their annual Fall Invite at the Warhawk Tennis Courts over the course of Friday, September 11th & Saturday, September 12th.
On Friday, the Warhawks started the tournament strong, taking the crown at all three doubles flights.
At the top-flight,
Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIC) &
Luke Blumentritt (Granger, Ind./Indiana Connections Academy) cruised to a 6-0 first round win, reaching the championship with a 6-4 semifinal. In the final match, Billson & Blumentritt only dropped two games to take first in the top bracket.
At the second doubles flight, it was two Warhawk teams in the championship.
Gavin Kelleher (Brooklyn, Minn./Champlin Park) &
Carter Michaels (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) won their first two matches with a 6-0, 6-3 victory to reach the finals.
Seth Smigel (Tiffin, Iowa/Clear Creek Amana) &
Jakub Obrochta (Burbank, Ill./Acellus Academy) had a close first match, taking a tiebreaker victory in round one 7-6(3). The pair's semifinal match was a close 6-4 match as well. Smigel & Obrochta carried their close matches into the final against their teammates, emerging victorious with a 6-3 win.
At the third doubles flight,
Ethan Hoffman (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union)n &
David Klaas (Madison, Wis./Vel Phillips Memorial) went on a roll, taking their first match of the day 6-0. Hoffmann & Klaas took the semifinal & championship bout both by 6-3 scores to help the Warhawks sweep the doubles flights.
