Track & Field Wraps Up Competition at Platteville Invite Saturday

Platteville, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition in the UW-Platteville Invitational Saturday.

The Warhawks' top finish on the men's side Saturday came in the high jump. Jer'Von Anderson (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) won the event withe a career-best 1.98 meters (6-6) - the second-best mark in the WIAC so far this season. Daniel Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) (1.93m) finished third while Ben Bunton (Hartford, Wis./Hartford) (1.93m) was sixth in the event off of jumps. Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) paced the UWW women in the event with a height of 1.53 meters (5-0.25) to claim seventh. 

Connor Fontaine (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) was the runner-up in the discus with a mark of 47.17 meters (154-9). Caitlin Zingsheim (Milton, Wis./Milton) also registered a season best in the women's discus with a heave of 40.88 meters (134-1) to secure fifth. In the javelin, Landon Scray (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) secured fourth with a season-best distance of 50.59 meters (166-0). 

In the jumps, Cherish Smith (Beloit, Wis./Turner) paced the Warhawk women with a sixth place finish in the long jump. She posted a mark of 5.43 meters (17-9.75) in the event. Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) added an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.20 meters (36-9). On the men's side, Aiden Neduzak's (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) mark of 13.67 meters (44-10.25) was good for seventh.

Jack Froslee (Andover, Minn./Andover) rounded out the top eight finishes in the field events with a sixth place height in the pole vault - 4.16 meters (13-7.75). 

On the track, UW-Whitewater registered a number of runner-up finishes. Chris Kalies (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) was the second-fastest in the 400 with a clocking of 48.68. Jack Erickson (Belleville, Wis./Belleville) (49.26) and Gabe Ubert (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) (49.52) joined Kalies in the top eight. Meanwhile, Hannah Bilodeau-Wahl (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) crossed the line in 58.20 to secure fifth followed closely by Sophie Beightol's (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) 58.63 for sixth - both season bests.

Drew Davey (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) was the runner-up in the 800 after crossing the line in 1:55.02. Rhett Reuter (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) was seventh in the event with a time of 1:55.75. 

In the fastest event of the meet, Traysen Thomason (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) claimed bronze with a clocking of 10.90. Alyssa Stacy (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was the fastest Warhawk woman with a time of 12.40 for eighth. Matt Andreano added another top eight finish with a clocking of 3:59.90 in the 1500. 

In the relays, Pouska, Stacy, Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) and Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) combined for a time of 47.94 to finish fourth in the 4x100. The men's 4x400 combination of Drew Davey (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn), Reuter, Colin Lewandowski (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and James Belus (Oconomowoc, Wis./) crossed the line in 3:26.59 to claim fifth.

Friday Recap
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track & field team began competition at the UW-Platteville Invitational with the 5000 meter Run on Friday night, as well as the men's & women's hammer throw in the field events. 

There were 365 total men and 213 total women competing in the multiple heats of the 5000 meter run Friday night. 

Miranda McNally (Downers Grove, Ill./North) started the day for the Warhawks by winning the first heat of the day. McNally crossed first with a time of 18:52.41. She was joined in the first heat by Nicole Brown (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake) - 7th in Heat 1 at 19:18.22, Madison Wnek (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) - 15th in Heat 1 at 19:38.59, and Jocelyn Ramirez (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) - 20th in Heat 1 at 19:44.62

In the following heats, Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago), Abie Anderson, and Ella Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis./UW-Parkside) secured their spots in the top half of the standings. Anderson & Hansen ran together in Heat 4, with Erb in Heat 5. Anderson timed in at 18:07.53, finishing 6th in her heat & 78th overall. Hansen timed in at 18:29.24, 20th in her heat & 106th overall.

Erb had the fastest women's time of the day with a 17:37.49, placing 47th overall. 

On the men's side, the Warhawks had seven place in the top half of the standings. In the 5th heat, Nick Wendl (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) timed in at 15:04.80, the 6th fastest time in that heat and 133rd best overall. He was joined by Keegan Bratt (Waukesha, Wis./West), who placed 16th in the heat with a 15:21.50, placing 159th overall. 

Jonah Block (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) recorded the second fastest time in the 7th men's heat, timing in at 14:46.14. block's time marked 72nd in the overall standings. Brandon Massman (Belvidere, Ill./North) joined Block in Heat 7, timing at 14:59.94, finishing 13th in heat & 123rd overall. 

Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) & Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) also placed in the top 100. Anderson raced in Heat 11, timing in at 14:47.80 to finish 78th overall. Johnson had a 14:51.32 finish for 84th overall

The fastest Warhawk men's time of the day was from Alex Metko (Brillion, Wis./Brillon), finishing 44th overall. Metko timed in at 14:25.87 in Heat 10.

With the 5000 on the track, the Warhawks also had throwers competing in the hammer throw.

On the women's side, against over 60 other throwers, three Warhawks reached the top-20. Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Lou Matulenko (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) placed 14th and 17th, respectively. Czarnecki threw for a 45.55m (149-0.500) mark. Matulenko measured at 43.51m (142-09.00). 

Caitlin Zingsheim (Milton, Wis./Milton) highlighted the women's side, placing 8th overall. Zingsheim reached the finals with a 48.82m (160-02.00) toss. 

For the men, 70 total throwers competed in Platteville. Mason Beures & Connor Fontaine (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) highlighted the Warhawks with a 29th and 30th finish overall. Beures had a 42.92m (140-10.00) mark with Fontaine reaching 42.70m (140-01.00). 

Jordan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) -- 38.30m (125-0.800) -- and William Hodgins (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) -- 37.90m (124-04.00) -- placed 45th & 46th, respectively. 

The rest of the Warhawk track & field team will continue competition at UW-Platteville, starting tomorrow at 11 am.
