Warhawks Fall to UChicago in NCAA Second Round

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team fell to UChicago in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Maroons outscored the Warhawks 21-6 in the final quarter of the game, pulling away for the 62-46 win. 

The Warhawks jumped out to a quick lead with the first two baskets of the game, but UChicago hit a three to kick off their scoring for the day. The Maroons' three would be the only ones by either team in the first half. 

UChicago cut the lead down to 11-9 before the end of the first quarter, & scored the first basket of the second to tie the game up at 11-a-piece. The Warhawks answered back with an 8-0 over the next three minutes. The Maroons were able to find some offense to minimize the run, but the Warhawks stayed even with them the rest of the half. UWW took a 28-21 lead into the halftime break. 

At halftime, the Warhawks were 37.9% (11-for-29) from the floor with UChicago hitting 31.0% (9-for-29). 

After the break, UChicago began the half with a 10-0 run, taking their first lead of the game. The Warhawks found their first basket of the half to tie the game up at 30, setting up a back-&-forth second half. 

The Maroons continued their run, extending their third-quarter lead up to six points with 90-seconds left in the frame. The Warhawks were able to finish the quarter on a 5-0 run, entering the final frame down by just one at 40-41.

The last frame was quiet on the scoreboard for the first two minutes until UChicago went on a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the night at 51-40. The Maroons built up the lead 13, 55-42, with the Warhawks missing their first nine shots from the floor in the quarter.

Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) hit a three-pointer for the Warhawks first basket of the fourth with 2:10 on the clock. UChicago didn't let the Warhawks get another, holding UWW to just six points in the final 10-minutes. The Maroons outscored the Warhawks 21-6 in the fourth quarter to take the 62-46 win in the Second Round game.

The Warhawks finish their season with a 20-9 record, their 6th straight season of 20+ wins.
