UWW Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (March 30th)

Baseball

Gilroy, Brady

Position: Brady Gilroy – Freshman – Outfielder – Elgin, Ill./Burling Central
 

Brady Gilroy helped lead the Warhawks to a sweep over UW-Stevens Point to open WIAC play. Gilroy started all four games in right field, and led off the batting order in the series. At the plate in the series, Gilroy went 7-for-18 from the plate (.389) with three doubles and three homeruns for a slugging percentage of 1.056. Gilroy tallied 8 RBIs over the four games and was perfect in the field with five putouts.
 

Tucker, Benjy

Pitcher: Benjy Tucker – Junior – RHP – Alpharetta, Ga./Mount Pisgah
 

Benjy Tucker made two appearances in the Warhawk’s four-game series against UW-Stevens Point to open up WIAC play. In his first appearance, Tucker earned a save, pitching the final four outs in a 10-8 Warhawk victory. In his second appearance, Tucker went 3.2 innings of relief for the win in an 8-7 victory. Tucker only allowed one hit in his 5.0 innings of work, striking out six. 
 

Softball

Position: Rachel Radish – Freshman – First Base/Third Base – Merton, Wis./Arrowhead
 

Rachel Radish led the Warhawk offense in a pair of games last week. The freshman went 5-for-7 at the plate (.714) with two runs scored and a walk for an on base percentage of .750. Defensively, she was stellar at first base with 14 putouts and zero errors. 
 

Pitcher: Madi DeBennette – Junior – RHP – Wadsworth, Ill./Carmel Catholic
 

Madi DeBennette tossed a complete game shutout in UW-Whitewater’s 5-0 win over Carthage Saturday. The junior scattered four hits across seven innings of work. She struck out five without issuing a walk along the way. 
 

Men's Tennis

Billson, Theo

Singles: Theo Billson – Junior – Linfield, England/BHASVIC
 

Theo Billson went 3-0 in the Warhawks’ singles one position over their spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. Billson started the week with a three set win over Carleton’s No.1 singles, then followed up with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Augustana’s Diaz. Billson finished the week with another three-set win, overcoming a 4-6 first set to finish the week 3-0.

Michaels, Carter

Doubles: Theo Billson – Junior – Linfield, England/BHASVIC & Carter Michaels – Freshman – Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan
 

Theo Billson and Carter Michaels went 2-1 as a pair in the Warhawks’ top doubles spot during their spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The pair started their trip with a close tiebreaker loss to Carleton’s Garapati & Rivkin, 6(6)-7. The pair bounced back with two straight wins against Augustana’s and DePauw’s top doubles teams. A 6-3 win over the Vikings’ Marcelo Escribano & Garcia Acebo then a tiebreaker 7-6(8) win over the Tigers’ Cramer & Buelte.
 

Track & Field

Anderson, Dan

Men's Track: Dan Anderson – Senior – Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell

Dan Anderson finished 20th among the all-division field of the 10,000-meter run at the WashU Distance Carnival over the weekend. The senior crossed the line in 30:27.61. His time was the eleventh-fastest for a Division III runner in the event.

Scray, Landon

Men's Field: Landon Scray – Freshman – Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead

Landon Scray posted a pair of fifth place finishes at the Pioneer Triangular Friday. The freshman registered mark of 43.16 (141-7) in his first time competing in the javelin throw collegiately. He added a height of 1.81 (5-11.25) in the high jump for another fifth. 

Huerta, Kelly

Women's Track: Kelly Huerta – Sophomore – McHenry, Ill./McHenry

Kelly Huerta won the 100-meter dash at the Pioneer Triangular Friday. The sophomore crossed the line in 12.03, just three-hundredths off her personal best. 

Zingsheim, Caitlin

Women's Field: Caitlin Zingsheim – Sophomore – Milton, Wis./Milton

Caitlin Zingsheim secured two top four finishes in the throws at the Pioneer Triangular Friday. The sophomore was the top Warhawk finisher in the hammer throw with a heave of 44.61 (146-4) to claim third. She added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 36.97 (121-3). Zingsheim also competed in the shot put posting a mark of 10.59 (34-9) for 12th.
