UWW Women with Strong Showing at the Big Dawg Invite

Warhawks place 7 in the top-10 of the Mile

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track & field team competed at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invite on Saturday, February 7th.

Alyssa Stacy (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) took second place in the 60m final, timing in a 7.95 to lead the Warhawks four runners in the finals. Shay Schuh (Janesville, Wis./Parker), Sydney Griffin (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet), and Faith Gaston (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) all reached the finals of the event, with Schuh running a personal best 8.19 in the qualifiers.

The Warhawk hurdlers took the top three spots in the 60m hurdles. All three posted a personal best in the event. Hannah Pergande (Hazel Green, Wis./Southwestern) timed in at 9.96 to place first overall. Amelianna Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Academy of Science) finished at 10.53 for second, and Amanda Hillman took third with a 10.74 PR. 

In the 200m, Sophie Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) led the Warhawks with a 26.76 finish, placing third overall in the event. Lily Cooper (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) placed third in the 400m for the Warhawks, completing her two laps in 1:02.93. 

The Warhawks had one of their strongest events of the day in the mile with 7 runners placing in the top-10. Emma Henningfeld (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Abi Anderson (Janesville, Wis./Craig) led the way, both hitting personal bests. Henningfeld timed in at 5:16.28 for the first place finish with Anderson placing third with a 5:23.16.

Zoe Roder (Waukesha, Wis./South), Brynn Fuerstenberg (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), and Mercedi Lapacek (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) placed second overall in the high jump, reaching the 1.54m bar.

Emily Mohs (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) took gold in the triple jump with a 10.53m leap on her fifth attempt of the day. Over on the other side of the jumps pit, Faith Gaston (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) led the Warhawks with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a 4.87m leap. 

The Warhawk throwers were able to find success as well. In the shot put, Jenna Wilkinson (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) placed third overall with an 11.73m throw. Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) placed 5th in the shot put, before taking gold in the weight throw. Czarnecki had a 15.29m toss to place first overall.

Lou Matulenko (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), Jenna Wilkinson (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie), and Caitlin Zingsheim (Milton, Wis./Milton) all followed Czarnecki in the weight throw, with the Warhawks taking the top four spots in the event. 

Rounding out the running events, two Warhawk relays took the podium. Brinley Everson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), Ella Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis./UW-Parkside), Emma Shingledecker (New Berlin, Wis./West), and Ava Kowaleski placed first overall in the 4x400 with a 4:27.87 finish. 

The Warhawk track & field teams will return home for their next meet, hosting the Midwest Elite Invite on February 13th and 14th in Whitewater.
