The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team defeated Coe College 5-2 on Saturday in Lake Gevena. Coe grabbed the early doubles point, but the Warhawks went 5-1 in the singles flights to secure the victory.

Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIC) and Carter Michaels (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) fended off a doubles sweep for the Kohawks with a 7-5 victory at the top flight. The Warhawk pair got an early 4-1 lead then fended off the top Coe pair on their way to the win.

The Warhawks claimed two early singles points with a win from Gavin Kelleher (Brooklyn, Minn./Champlin Park) at the fifth flight and Keith Moeller (Dallas, Tex./DKM-I University Prep) at the sixth flight. Both Kelleher (6-2, 6-1) and Moeller (6-1, 6-3) secured their matches in straight sets.

Coe grabbed the third singles flight, but Billson won his flight to put the Warhawks up 3-2. Charles Morgan (Naperville, Ill./Central) then picked up the decisive point at the second singles flight to give the Warhawks the dual win. Morgan won his third set 6-0 to clinch the match point.

Carter Michaels (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) wrapped up the dual with a win at the fourth singles flight. Michaels battled in a close tiebreaker in the second set, but secured his match with a 6-2 third set.

The Warhawks begin their conference season with a dual against UW-Eau Claire on March 6th. The first conference match of the season is set to begin at 6 PM in Eau Claire.
