UWW Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week (Feb. 23rd)

Baseball

Malkow, Brady

Pitcher: Brady Malkow — Junior — Pitcher — Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead

Brady Malkow started the Warhawks' season on the mound against No. 9 Trinity University. The junior right-hander pitched 4.2 innings, only allowing two hits while fanning seven batters. The Warhawks went on to a 6-2 victory in the opening game of the season.

Basketball

Bara, Luke

Men’s Basketball – Luke Bara — Senior — Guard — Muskego, Wis./Muskego


Luke Bara averaged 15.5 points in the Warhawks’ two wins last week as they clinched their first outright WIAC regular season title since 2012. The senior made five threes over the two games, scoring 14 against UW-Stevens Point and 17 against UW-River Falls. Bara also averaged two rebounds & two assists in the games.

Gillis, Mia

Women’s Basketball: Mia Gillis – Junior – Forward – Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic

Mia Gillis paced the Warhawks offensively in a pair of games last week. The junior averaged 17.5 points per game on nearly 60% shooting from the floor. Gillis added five rebounds per contest.

Gymnastics

Specialist: Caroline Saenz – Freshman – Houston, Texas/Cy-Fair

Caroline Saenz posted a 9.725 to claim a share of bronze on the uneven bars in UW-Whitewater’s dual at UW-La Crosse Friday. The score is a season-best for Saenz in her freshman campaign

Multi-Event: Multi-Event: Juliette Rider – Freshman – San Antonio, Texas/Acellus

Juliette Rider secured a pair of first place finishes in the Warhawks’ dual at UW-La Crosse Friday. The freshman won the vault with a score of 9.725 and the floor exercise with a fantastic routine scoring 9.825. She was also the top Warhawk on the balance beam with a 9.675 that tied for fourth on the apparatus

Track & Field

Baumgart, Kayden

Men's Track: Kayden Baumgart — Freshman — Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb

Kayden Baumgart placed fourth in the men’s 200m at the Eagle Invite over the weekend. Baumgart timed in at a personal best 6.88 in the finals. Baumgart also competed in the 200m, setting another personal best 22.55 to place in the top-half of the competition.

Anderson, Jer'Von

Men's Field: Jer’Von Anderson — Freshman — Watertown, Wis./Watertown

Jer'Von Anderson finished second overall at the Eagle Invite in the high jump. The freshman surpassed the 2.05m bar, setting a personal best and 5th-best mark in program history.

Huerta, Kelly

Women's Track: Kelly Huerta — Sophomore — McHenry, Ill./McHenry

Kelly Huerta led the Warhawks in the sprinting events at the Eagle Invite. The Sophomore placed in the top-3 of the 60m & 200m sprints. Huerta timed in at 7.76 to finish second in the 60m and then ran a 25.47 in the 200m, finishing third overall.

Gaston, Faith

Women's Field: Faith Gaston — Sophomore — Gurnee, Ill./Warren

Faith Gaston placed seventh overall in the long jump at the Eagle Invite over the weekend. Gaston leapt 5.03m on her second attempt of the day to reach the 7th spot.
