River Falls, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater women's basketball team dropped their regular season finale at UW-River Falls 65-57 Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks' seed heading into the WIAC Tournament will be determined by the final conference game of the day between UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire slated for a 5 PM tipoff.
The Warhawks were on fire in the opening quarter outscoring the home squad 22-11 in the first ten minutes of action. UWW shot nearly 60% in the quarter leading to the 11-point advantage.
The UW-Whitewater offense hit a cold spell in the second quarter while the Falcons heated up which led to a 26-point sway toward the red and black. At the intermission, UWRF held a 40-25 advantage.
The Warhawks flipped the script in the third whittling away at the gap and pulling to within three by the end of the quarter. UWW wrapped up the period on a 6-1 run capped by a pair of free throws from
Brooke Stenklyft (Cambridge, Wis./Cambridge) that made the score 46-49.
UW-River Falls used an early fourth quarter run to hold off the Warhawks at the end.
The offensive glass proved pivotal as the Falcons held a 9-0 advantage in second chance points.
Mia Gillis (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) led UWW with 21 points adding six boards and a pair of assists. Stenklyft hit double digits in the score column.
Camryn Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) grabbed six rebounds while dishing out four assists.
Logan Lowry (Appleton, Wis./East) matched Nies' team high four assists.
