Warhawks Lead After First Round of WIAC Championship

Halverson Tops Individual Leaderboard

REEDSBURG, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater women's golf team tops the team and individual leaderboards after the first day of competition in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held at Reedsburg Country Club. 

The Warhawks hold a two-stroke lead over UW-Stout after combining for a 308 Friday. Delainey Halverson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) paced all golfers with a 74 (+2) - tied for the 13th-best round in WIAC history since the championship has been held at Reedsburg CC. Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) came in at +5 while Breezy Roman (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was +6 to rank among the top 10 individually after round one. Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) rounded out the top four at +7 on the day with Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) capping the group at +13. 

UW-Whitewater is represented by a host of golfers competing as individuals including Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (+12), Kaylee Erickson (Eau Claire, Wis./North) (+12), Avery Sallmann (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (+15), Olivia Kernen (Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) (+16), Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) (+19), Maeve Niemiec (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) (+20) and Alexa Reed (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) (+23). 

After the first round, UW-Stout is two strokes back followed by UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville. 

The championship continues tomorrow (Saturday) with a 9 AM start (split tees). The WIAC champion will be determined Sunday following the third round.
