The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team opened up their 2026 campaign with two dual wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering and Carroll University. The Warhawks swept MSOE 7-0 and beat Carrol 6-1 at the Lake Geneva Tennis Courts.
In their first official dual of the season, UW-Whitewater opened up with a very quick doubles point over the Raiders.
Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIC) and
Carter Michaels (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) took the top doubles flight with a 6-3 victory.
Gavin Kelleher (Brooklyn, Minn./Champlin Park) and
Charles Morgan (Naperville, Ill./Central) secured the point with a 6-2 victory at the second flight.
Andrew Dumbauld (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Daniel Moeller were able to secure a full sweep of the doubles with a close 7-5 victory in the third flight.
Billson took his singles match against MSOE in just half-an-hour, only dropping one game in the straight set victory.
Seth Smigel (Tiffin, Iowa/Clear Creek Amana) was next to finish at the sixth singles flight, dropping only two games in the first set for a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Dumbauld and Michaels secured the match with wins at the third and fourth doubles flight, respectively. Â
Later in the day, UW-Whitewater faced off against Carroll in their second dual of the day.
Julius Jonsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) and
Parker Sprague (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) started the match with a 6-0 win at the third doubles flight. The Warhawks top doubles flight of Billson and Michaels earned the doubles point with a 6-1 win.
In the singles flights, the Warhawks were able to secure the match with three quick victories at the bottom three flights. Kelleher (4th), Smigel (5th), and Moeller (6th) all secured straight set victories, not dropping more than two games in their match. Billson continued his day with a victory at the top singles flight, and Michaels took the Warhawks' sixth team point of the match at the third flight.Â
The men's tennis team heads over to St. Louis next weekend with a match-up against 16th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis. The dual begins at 5 PM on Saturday, January 31st at the Vetta Sunset Indoor Facility.Â
