Men Track & Field Hosts Karl Schlender Invitational

Warhawks claim 7 top spots on their home track

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team hosted their first meet of the indoor campaign - the Karl Schlender Invite - Saturday. The meet featured athletes representing NAIA, NCAA Division III, NCAA Division I and the Greater Milwaukee Track Club. 

On their home track, the Warhawk men took first place in two track events, two jumps, and two throws. UWW also had the top four spots in the distance medley relay. The top squad of Matt Andreano, Colin Lewandowski (Elmhurst, Ill./York), Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./Poynette), and Alex Metko (Brillion, Wis./Brillon) timed in at 10:39.67 to lead the Warhawk heavy-finish. 

Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) took the top time in the the prelims of the 60m timing in at 6.85. Beightol topped his prelim time in the finals, running a 6.80 to take the top spot in the dash. In the 60 hurdles, Tristian Ropiak placed sixth overall in the final heat. Ropiak timed in at 8.76 in the finals. 

For the 200, Traysen Thomason (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was the top Warhawk finisher, placing fifth overall. Tomason completed his lap around the track in 23.19 seconds.

Chris Kalies (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) and Gabe Ubert (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) both placed in the top-five for the 400m, Kalies had the second fastest time of the day with a 50.18, while Ubert timed in at 50.79 for a fourth place finish. 

The Warhawks also had a strong showing in the mid-distance events. For the 600m, the Warhawks had eight runners in the top nine spots. Drew Davey (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn), Felipe Wickler (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), and James Belus (Oconomowoc, Wis./) finished first, second, third out of the Warhawk runners. Davey timed in at 1:24.25 with Wickler closely behind at 1:25.13, as they both recording new personal bests. Belus timed in at 1:26.82

Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) recorded a new personal best in the mile, timing in at 4:15.17. The race was a close one, with Anderson placing second overall, less than half a second behind the top finisher form UW-Parkside. 

The Warhawk vertical jumps set new top-10 marks in the program record book. In high-jump, Daniel Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) matched his 1.95m from a week ago to maintain the 10th highest mark in Warhawk program history, placing second overall in the meet. Jordan Elloit also took a podium finish reaching 1.90m for third place. In pole vault, Jack Froslee cleared the 4.65m bar to rank the ninth highest vault in program history and earn a first place finish. Jackson Pfaff (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) reached 4.30m on the pole vault for the third place finish. 

For horizontal jumps, the Warhawks took the top spot in both the long jump and triple jump. On his first jump in the finals, Lincoln Begin (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) recorded a 6.92m leap for the top mark. The sophomore only had one foul in his six jumps. In triple jump, Aiden Neduzak (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) measured at 13.54m on his 5th attempt of the day to take the gold.

For the throws, Connor Fontaine (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) had a career day, setting a personal best in both the shot-put and weight throw. Fontaine placed 3rd overall in the shot put with a 14.29m toss on his very first attempt. Over on weight throw, Fontaine saved his best throw for last, with a 14.78m toss to finish 7th place. Jordan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was the next highest for UWW in the shot put, placing fourth overall with a 14.19m throw. In weight throw, Landon Martin (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) was the top Warhawk, with a 15.33m mark, finishing fourth overall in the field event. 

The Warhawks will stay at home for their next meet, hosting the Squig Converse Invite on January 30th and 31st.
