The Warhawks were unable to overcome the second-half rallies by the Pioneers

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell on the road to 20th-ranked UW-Platteville, 60-70 in the annual Garding Against Cancer game. The Warhawks kept it close, battling back from down 10, but a late run from the Pioneers gave the Warhawks the loss on the road.

A back-and-forth first half had 10 lead changes. The Warhawks were initially down 12-6 early, but a 9-2 run was capped by a three-pointer for Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) to put the Warhawks up 15-14 with just over 10-minutes in the first frame.

Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) gave the Warhawks a 3-point lead, converting on a four-point play with five minutes to go. UW-Platteville answered back with an 11-2 run to end the half, entering the break with a 31-25 lead.

The Warhawks came out with a run of their own in the second half. Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) picked up a three-point play before the first media timeout to bring the Warhawks within two at 34-32.

UW-Platteville answered back with a run, growing the lead up to double digits. The Warhawks were unable to flip the score in the final stretch of the game, bringing it within five-points with just four minutes left.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 10 by the final buzzer to defeat the Warhawks.

Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) led the Warhawks with a 17-point, 8-rebound night. Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) added in 12-points of his own, all coming from behind the arc with 4 three-pointers.

Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) & Jake Quast (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) finished with 7 points each to round out the Warhawk scoring.
