The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team dropped a close match against conference opponent UW-La Crosse on Friday evening. The Warhawks drew out a close match, but the Eagles grabbed the needed flight to take the match 4-3.
UW-La Crosse grabbed the doubles point to begin the match, taking two out of the three flights. At the third flight, Josie Wojcikiewicz and
Kaitlyn Remke (Johnsburg, Ill./Marian Central) fought in a close match, going back & forth games, but the UWL doubles squad was able to grab the flight in the tiebreaker.
The Warhawks fended off a complete doubles sweep, with
Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) overcoming a 5-2 deficit at the number one doubles flight. The pair won 5 games straight to take their doubles match 7-5.
Heading into the singles, the Warhawks fought to make up the doubles point, but after UWL grabbed two flights to put them at match point.
Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) took her singles flight in straight sets, but then the Eagles grabbed the match point.
The Warhawks finished strong, though, winning the final two singles flights left.
Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) forced a third set, and eventually took the match in the tiebreaker of the third set.
Molly Asfeld (Waukesha, Wis./West) also took her flight. Asfeld dropped the first set, but took the next two to take the third flight.
