Golfers Finish Fifth & Ninth in Season Opening Tournament

Sturtevant, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team wrapped up competition in the first tournament of the season Saturday at the Ives Grove Firebird Women's Fall Classic hosted by Carthage. The Warhawks had two squads and two individual golfers competing at the tournament. 

One Warhawk fivesome combined for a 324 Saturday for a two-day total of 645 to finish fifth. Delainey Halverson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) (81-77) had the best round of the day for UWW, coming into the clubhouse +5. She ended up tied for 12th with teammate Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (79-79) with a 36-hole total of 158. Breezy Roman (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) (80-84-164), Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) (81-84-165) and Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (91-92-183) rounded out the group. 

The second squad was paced by Abbie Reiser's (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) +6 on the day. She ended up with a two-day total of 163 (85-78), tied for 21st with Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) (83-80). Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) (87-81-168), Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) (82-82-164) and Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) (85-82-167) finished the group. 

Competing as individuals, Alexa Reed (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) shaved six strokes off her day one total for an 82. Her tournament card totaled 170. Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) totaled 176 for the tournament after cutting 14 strokes off of her round one card for an 81 Saturday.

Sturtevant, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team opened the 2025-26 campaign at the Ives Grove Firebird Women's Fall Classic hosted by Carthage Friday. The tournament will conclude Saturday.

UW-Whitewater has two squads competing in the tournament. One fivesome is ranked second on the team leaderboard after the first round. Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) led the group with a 79 - four strokes out of the lead - followed by Breezy Roman's (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) 80. Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Delainey Halverson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) were both +9 on the day (81) and Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) rounded out the squad with a 91.

The second UWW squad holds 9th in the 18-team tournament after day one. Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) had the best card of the fivesome, 82. Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) registered an 83 followed by Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) and Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) each with 85. Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) was +15 on the round. 

The Warhawks were also represented by two individual golfers. Alexa Reed (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) carded an 88 while Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) recorded a 95.
