Men's Hoops down Stout, 87-69

Capstran and Madson each with 18 points

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a dominant home win over UW-Stout, 87-69. 

The Warhawks and Blue Devils traded baskets to start the game, it was an 8-8 stalemate at the first media timeout, but the Warhawks came out and put toghether an 11-0 run to take control of the early minutes.

The Blue Devils brought the lead back down to single digits, but the Warhawks kept battling, not allowing any big runs from visitors.

The Warhawks took their biggest lead of the first half at 14 points, but a small 5-0 run by the Blue Devils made it a nine point game heading into the locker room. 

Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./) and Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) both came up big for the Warhawks each already hitting double digit scoring in the first half.

The Warhawks came out for the second half with an 11-0 run, pushing the lead to 20. Stout didn't have an answer, as the Warhawks kept piling on the points, with a 20-3 run in the first 8 minutes.

Stout looked to get to the line, but were unable to convert on the charity stripe. The Blue Devils shot just 8-for-18 in the second half. UW-Whitewater kept a hold of the game with their opportunities, shooting 12-for-14 from the line. 

The lead didn't drop below 10 for the rest of the second-half, as the Warhawks cruised to the 87-69 home win. 

Capstran and Madson both finished with 18 points to lead the Warhawks. They matched each other's 6 rebounds as well. Capstran dished out a team-high 3 assists while Madson was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) added in 14 points. Darius Chestnut (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) finished with 8 points, and 6 rebounds. Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) collected 6 rebounds in the contest as well. The Warhawks had 8 players with over 5 points in the contest.

UWW men's hoops is on the road as they head into the final stretch of conference games. The Warhawks will take on 8th-ranked UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, February 12th at 7 PM. 

UW-Whitewater will return to Kachel for their final home game of the season on February 19th. The Warhawks will recognize and honor the seniors as they take on UW-Platteville at 7 PM.
