The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell to UW-River Falls on the road, 72-66. The Warhawks had the fight from behind late, but the Falcons withstood the pressure and kept the Warhawks away.
The first half started out as a race to ten, as both teams struggled to get out of the gates offensively. The Warhawks hit the double-digit mark first, with a
Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./) three.Â
After that, the Warhawks put together a little run, extending their lead to nine at 25-16. The lead eventually hit double digits, at 28-18 with two minutes to go in the second quarter. But a late three pointer by the Falcons cut the lead to just six before the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Falcsons started to chip away, eventually tying the game up at 42 with 13 minutes left to go.Â
The Warhawks kept it a one possession game until an 8-0 Falcon run put UWRF up by 11 with 5 minutes to go.Â
UWW battled back, getting it as close as a three-point deficit, but the Falcons kept making their free throws, taking the 72-66 win.
The Warhawks had four with double-digit scoring.
Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) led them with 14 points, going 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.Â
Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) added in 12 points of his own. Warren had a stellar defense game, swatting away three shots and recording two steals.Â
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./) and
Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis.) each chipped in 11 points.
Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) and
Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./) both finished with seven. Madson pulled down a team high 10 rebounds.Â
The Warhawks will return to Kachel Gymnasium for their final home game of the regular season. UWW will face UW-Platteville on Wednesday, February 19th for senior night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM.Â
