Minneapolis, Minn. -- The No. 10 UW-Whitewater women's basketball team cruised to an 89-51 win at Augsburg Monday.
Once again it was the Warhawks' stifling defensive pressure that wreaked havoc and led to a huge lead early on. In the first 10 minutes, UWW converted 9 forced turnovers into 11 points to open up a 26-16 advantage. By the break, the Auggie turnover tally had ballooned to 18 as UW-Whitewater outscored the home squad 25-4 in points off miscues. After allowing just seven second quarter points, the Warhawks took a 51-23 lead into the locker room.
Augsburg limited their turnovers in the second half but UWW's offense was firing on all cylinders. The Warhawks shot over 64% from the floor in the third quarter hitting 9-14 to go up 71-34.
The differential hit 40 multiple times in the fourth as UW-Whitewater cruised to the win to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Camryn Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) registered a career-high 18 to lead UWW. She hit 8-10 from the floor and 2-3 from three-point range in the game adding a pair of steals, three rebounds and an assist.
Mia Gillis (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) was a perfect 6-6 from the floor with a pair of free throws for 14 points. In total, 12 Warhawks entered the column in the game.
On the glass, Gillis,
Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) and
Logan Lowry (Appleton, Wis./East) each hauled in six rebounds while
Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) led all players with six assists. Rittmeyer added a game-high five steals.
UW-Whitewater wraps up its non-conference slate with their final game of 2025 tomorrow. Tipoff at Gustavus Adolphus is slated for 5:45. The Warhawks will kickoff Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in the new year with a top ten battle at UW-Oshkosh on January 3.
