Warhawks Wrap Up Home Slate with Senior Day

Whitewater, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up their home slate with Senior Day against UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks women topped the Pointers 185-129 while the men fell 123-194. 

The win for the UWW women is the first in a dual over the Pointers since the fall of 2017.

The UW-Whitewater women won all but two of the individual events in the swimming portion of the meet Saturday. The Warhawks opened the meet with a nearly 10-second win in the 200-yard medley relay. Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale), Hailey Vogel (Rockwell City, Iowa/Fort Dodge), Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) and Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) combined for a time of 1:50.47. Carly Pierzchalski (Crystal Lake, Ill./Harry D Jacobs) and Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) kicked off the individual events with a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle. Pierzchalski was clocked in 11:22.34 while Gallo touched next, ten seconds back. 

Addi Sanow (Munster, Ind./Munster) claimed gold in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.58. The 50 free came down to the touch as Linstroth won by just six-hundredths of a second, 26.03. The 100 version of the free went to Vogel with a time of 55.65. Gallo and Hannah Wenszell (West Bend, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual) added gold and silver in the 500 freestyle. The pair were clocked in 5:37.45 and 5:45.08 respectively.

In the backstroke, Denton and Doczy took the top two spots in the 100 with times of 1:00.86 and 1:05.05 respectively. Doczy was tops in the 200 back with a clocking of 2:20.18. 

Vogel was the top finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.81 - more than six seconds ahead of the next finisher. 

Denton grabbed another individual gold in the 100 butterfly. She stopped the clock in 1:00.42 with Paige Malitz (Wausau, Wis./DC Everest) coming in second with a time of 1:03.71. 

In the medleys, Gallo claimed first in the 200 with a time of 2:20.83 while Hannah Gault (Moline, Ill./Moline) finished second in the 400 stopping the clock in 5:12.13.

The final event of the day went to the Warhawks as Linstroth, Sanow, Vogel and Denton combined for a clocking of 1:41.04 in the 200 free relay.

Olivia Santiago (Auburn, Cal./Placer) was the top Warhawk diver Saturday. She won the three-meter competition with a total of 191.55. In the one-meter competition, Santiago accumulated 191.03 points, just 0.37 back from the top of the podium.

The UW-Whitewater men kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan), Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), Ethan Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) were just three-tenths back of the top time with a 1:37.01. 

In the freestyles, Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) and Daniel Madson (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah) went 1-2 in the 500 and 1000. Weis was clocked in 4:57.58 in the 500 and 10:12.82 in the 1000. Madson's registered times of 5:03.73 and 10:31.14 respectively. Weis Schleuter secured gold in the 200 with a time of 1:46.17 and the 100 in 47.45. The 50 free saw Bergman come in second with a time of 21.77 - just two-tenths back from the leader.

Schmohe was the top Warhawk in the 100 backstroke with a silver time of 54.17. Johnson picked up a bronze in the 100 breaststroke stopping the clock in 1:01.38. 

Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) won the 200 fly by nearly four seconds with a clocking of 2:04.71. In the 100 version of the event, Bergman posted a time of 53.49 to win the race.

In the individual medleys, Keller won the 400 with a time of 4:25.15 while Johnson finished second in the 200 with a clocking of 2:05.05. 

In the final men's relay, Schmohe, Bergman, Schlueter and Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) were narrowly outstretched by a Pointer squad to finish in 1:26.90. 

Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North) finished fourth off of both the one meter (229.60) and three meter (162.68) boards.
