Men's Hoops Cruises to Big Win over Eureka

St. Louis, Mo. -- The UW-Whitewater men's basketball team capped the Lopata Classic hosted by Washington University in St. Louis with a lop-sided 116-73 win over Eureka College Saturday afternoon.

The Warhawk offense was on fire in the first half shooting 68-percent (23-34) from the field and 55-percent (6-11) from three-point range in the first half. UW-Whitewater built a double digit lead by the 12-minute mark in the first half and never looked back. With just under six minutes to go in the half, the Warhawks' lead ballooned to 20 and the squad eventually took a 24-point, 62-36, advantage into the break.

Three Warhawks had already hit double figures in the scoring column in the first 20 minutes of action -- Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis./Franklin), Luke Bara (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Jake Quast (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) all had 10.

On the other side of the intermission, the UW-Whitewater offense cooled, but not by much as the Warhawks shot 58-percent from field goal range and 53-percent from beyond the arc. With the hot hands, UWW continued to widen the gap leading by as much as 46 as the time wound down. Isaiah Robinson (Racine, Wis./Park) paced the Warhawks in the second period with 11 points.

Nineteen Warhawks saw action in the game with 14 entering the scoring column. Bara ended with a team-high 19 points on 7-10 from the floor including 5-8 from downtown. Richie Warren (Racine, Wis./Park) (12), Robinson (11), Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) (11), Verges (10), Quast (10) and Darius Chestnut (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) (10) all hit double figures. On the glass, Warren pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) and Joey Berezowitz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) dished out five assists each in the contest.

The Warhawks return to Whitewater for their home opener Wednesday, November 19. The UWW men will host Aurora University at 7:30 following the women's game against Carroll.
