The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team fell to UW-La Crosse 26-12 in a conference dual in Kachel Gym Thursday night. Prior to the dual, the Warhawks recognized their seniors including student coach
Buddy Evangelista (Wheaton, Ill./North), 149-pounder
Jalin Conner (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) and 174-pounder
Ryan Riser (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park).
Fifth-ranked
Jalen Dunson (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) got UWW on the board right out of the gate, racking up the points for a 16-7 major decision over #14 Quintin Wolbert at 125 pounds.
Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), ranked fourth, extended the Warhawk lead to a 9-0 with a, 18-3 technical fall victory over Cael Weinzweig.
The Eagles responded with a major decision as #15 Sam Lorenz topped
Cale Stonitsch (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) 9-1.
Lucio Morgan (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) added three more to the UW-Whitewater total with a 5-4 decision over Josh Cherba at 149 pounds.
UW-La Crosse ran out the rest of the dual. At 157 pounds, second-ranked Tyler Goebel won by 4-1 decision over UWW's
Luke Swan (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) to make it 12-7. Eleventh-ranked
Jermaine Butler (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) fell to Tate Flege by 4-0 decision at 165 pounds followed by another 4-1 decision at 174 as #7 Eddie Simes defeated Riser to give the Eagles a 13-12 lead in the dual.
At 184 pounds, Leo Draveling won by 13-7 decision over
Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls). Third-ranked Ben Kawczynski registered a 12-1 major decision over
Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) before top-ranked Michael Douglas won by fall (2:38) over
Isaak Smith (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) in the final bout of the evening.
The Warhawks are back in action Saturday for another WIAC dual at UW-Platteville. The match is slated to begin at 11 AM.
