The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team swept UW-River Falls in the Warhawks' 2024 home finale. UWW topped the Falcons 5-0 in the opener and 9-4 in the nightcap.
UW-Whitewater scored in 8 of the team's 12 offensive frames across the twinbill.
Kiarra Kostroski (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) bolstered the offense Friday. The pair combined to go 8-12 with three homeruns, two doubles, six runs batted in and nine runs scored.
Kostroski sparked the offense in the first inning with a solo blast, her first of two four-baggers on the day, to left center for an early 1-0 lead.
In the third, a Falcon miscue and a groundout brought in two more.
Wickman made it 5-0 in the fifth sending a no-doubter far beyond the outfield wall down the left field line.
Maddy Anderson (Waukesha, Wis./North) picked up the complete game win fanning six along the way.
Wickman got the scoring started in game two with a RBI double to left center in the bottom of the first.
UW-River Falls homered in the second and added another run in the frame to take their only lead of the day 2-1.
UWW responded with a long bottom of the second. The Warhawks hit around the order in the inning plating five runs on just one hit but helped by five walks. After two complete, UW-Whitewater held a 6-2 advantage.
The Falcons plated two in the third before the Warhawks responded with two of their own in the fourth. The first was another Kostroski homer. Despite getting stung by a bee early in the at bat she stayed in the box and blasted a ball that easily cleared the wall in left center.
Bella Eggert (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) showcased her speed legging out an infield single and forcing an error to bring in one run.
Eggert struck again in the sixth with a hard shot back up the middle for a RBI single that plated Wickman.
Rhiann Dick (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) went the first two innings in the circle.
Kate Cleveland (DePere, Wis./Ashwaubenon) registered the win allowing a single run in 4.1 innings of work.
