The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater registered a pair of shutouts over Elmhurst on a day the team celebrated its 2024 senior class. The Warhawks took game one 7-0 before blanking the Blue Jays 5-0 in the second game of the twinbill.
Maddy Anderson (Waukesha, Wis./North) combined with
Brooke Hock (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) for another gem in the circle. The pair of hurlers struck out eight while allowing four hits as Anderson picked up the win to improve to 6-0 on the season. Hock registered the save, her fourth of 2024.
The Warhawk offense gave the pitchers all the support they would need in the bottom of the third.
Sophia Kinjerski (Maribel, Wis./Denmark) ledoff the frame with an infield single and was replaced on the basepaths by
Abby Borchardt (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake).
Kaitlyn Weidemann (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) put the ball in play and an Elmhurst miscue had two runners on.
Bella Eggert (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) sacrificed both runners into scoring position and
Kiarra Kostroski (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) capitalized with a deep fly ball to centerfield that plated the first run of the game.
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) added another with a single up the middle in the next at bat to give UWW a 2-0 advantage.
UW-Whitewater added two more in the bottom of the fifth. After loading the bases with no outs via a walk, single and hit batter,
Taylor Koehler (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) laced a single up the middle to bring in two and double up the Warhawk score, 4-0.
With the offense rolling, the Warhawks plated three in the bottom of the sixth. Weidemann doubled in the first run of the frame. Eggert burned the left fielder and motored around the bases for a RBI triple in the next at bat. Kostroski made it three consecutive hits with a single through the left side that made it 7-0.
The Warhawks registered 11 hits in the game with Eggert, Wickman and Koehler all posting multiple hits in the contest.
UWW matched their offensive output in game two with 11 hits in the nightcap including five that went for extra bases. With all of the momentum from the game one shutout, Weidemann set the tone in game two with a leadoff triple down the right field line. Kostroski once again gave the Warhawks the lead with a RBI single to right field. Koehler laced a two-out double to left center to plate UW-Whitewater's second run of the game.
Kostroski struck again in the bottom of the third. She smashed a no-doubter that easily cleared the wall in left center for a solo homerun.
Maggie Ward (Downers Grove, Ill./North) registered a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give UWW a 4-0 lead.
Kostroski also had a hand in UWW's final run of the game. After leading off the fifth with a double to left center, she cruised around to score on a Wickman single up the middle for the 5-0 lead. Kostroski was perfect at the plate to lead the Warhawks going 3-3, including a double a homerun, with two RBI and three runs scored. Weidemann and Wickman added two hits each in the contest.
In the circle,
Rhiann Dick (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) picked up the win. In five innings of work, she allowed just one hit while striking out two.
