Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawk MBB Falls to UWL on the Road After Eagle's Second Half Push

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell on the road to UW-La Crosse Saturday evening, with the free throw line being a key component in the Eagles win. UW-La Crosse made 27 of their 36 free throw attempts while the Warhawks went 7 for 12.

The first was back and forth, with neither team getting a strong foothold on the game. A quick 7-0 run early in the game gave the Warhawks a 13-4 lead, but the Eagles chipped away at the lead, before their own 8-0 run gave them back the lead 26-24.

The Warhawks regained a one-point lead after a Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) three-pointer, but another 7-0 Eagles run gave them a six point lead with 5 minutes left to go in the half.

In those last five minutes in the half, the Warhawks held the Eagles to only four points, closing the lead to just three points at the break.

The Warhawks came out of the break and tied up the game quickly, at 43 a piece only 2 minutes into the half. But over the next eight minutes, the Eagles went on a scoring spree, putting up 20 points to take a 13-point lead at the 10 minute mark.

The Eagles kept finding themselves on the free throw line, with another 6-0 run to give them their largest lead of the night at 17 points.

Over the final five minutes, the Warhawks worked their way back into the game, bringing the game within single digits multiple times, but the Eagles kept using the charity stripe to maintain their lead, taking the 83-16 win.

Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) led the Warhawks in the scoring column, finishing with 20 points on the night. Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) and Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) both chipped in 13 points. Chislom also was active on the defensive end, swatting away two shots.

The Warhawks will head out on the road to take on the UW-Platteville on Wednesday, February 14th. The Pioneers lead the WIAC with two games remaining.  With the Eagles win over the Warhawks, there is a 3-way tie for second place with UW-Whitewater, UW-River Falls, & UW-La Crosse all sitting at 7-5.
