The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball dominated from start to finish over Knox College on Saturday for Parents' Day game.
The Warhawks bursted out to a 33-14 first quarter lead, driven by a strong offensive performance. UWW shot 57.1% from the field in the first 10, making 12 of 21 attempts, including three 3-pointers. They capitalized on turnovers, scoring 18 points off Knox's 10 turnovers and added 10 fast break points. UWW also dominated the paint with 14 points. Defensively, they recorded six steals and one block while committing only three turnovers.
In the second frame, UW-Whitewater kept the pace going with a 17-14 quarter. The Warhawks broke the half-century mark right before teh break, entering halftime with a 50-27 lead.Â
After the break, UWW outscored Knox 16-14 in the third quarter, extending their lead. UWW made five of 14 field goals, including three of six from beyond the arc, and converted three of four free-throw attempts. They dominated the boards with 11 total rebounds, including four offensive, and recorded two blocks. Despite committing six turnovers, UWW's defense limited Knox to five field goals on 13 attempts and forced two turnovers.
The Warhawks finished on their strongest quarter of the game, holding the Prairie Fire to just 8 points in the final 10 minutes. Knox's 8 turnovers in the game turned into 11 Warhawk points. UWW shot eight-for-13 from the field, including three-for-five from beyond the arc, while converting all six free throw attempts.Â
Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) led UWW with 23 points, making 7 out of 12 field goals and 4 of 6 three-pointers, and also contributed 6 assists.Â
Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) added 15 points, successfully hitting 6 of 9 shots from the field, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.Â
Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago), matching her career-high, added 15 points while shooting 5-for-6 from the field and making 2 out of 2 three-pointers.Â
The Warhawks will remain home for their next contest, taking on Wheaton College in their annual Hoops4Hunger Game. The Women's basketball team will be collecting canned food items and donating all items to The Community Space of Whitewater.Â
