Warhawks Pick up Home Win Against Hope

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball secured their first home win of the season with a 90-83 victory over Hope College on Friday night.

UWW led the Flying Dutch 45-33 at the end of the first half, fueled by strong shooting and bench contributions. The Warhawks made 16 of 29 basket attempts, including six 3-pointers, and converted seven of nine free throws. UWW capitalized on the Flying Dutch's turnovers, scoring 15 points off turnovers and receiving 18 points from the bench. The Flying Dutch matched the 18 points in the paint but struggled from deep going 2-for-10 from behind the arc. UWW also dominated the defensive effort with five steals compared to the Flying Dutch's one.

UWW kept their foot on the gas in the second half. The Warhawks shot 50 percent from the field with 12 baskets in 24 attempts. Hope College put together a 10-0 run late in the half to lead to single-digits, but the Warhawks kept their distance from the free throw line converting 17 of 23 free throws in the second half alone.

Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) led the team with 27 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the field, and added five assists and three steals.

Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) contributed 15 points, hitting 5 of his 9 basket attempts, and grabbing five rebounds.

Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) was effective from beyond the arc, scoring 16 points, including three 3-pointers, while also pulling down four rebounds.

UWW will head on the road to Virginia Beach to play in the North Beach Plastic Surgery Winter Classic hosted by Virginia Wesleyan. The Warhawks will face Averett in the first game on December 14th before facing the host Virginia Wesleyan on the 15th.
