Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawks unable to find momentum in second half; Storm pull away for 87-71 win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater fell to Simpson College, 87-71 on Saturday evening. The Storm rolled in the second-half, outscoring the Warhawks 47-35 in the second half on their way to the victory.

The first half was a close game, but the Storm held the lead for a majority of the half. The Warhawks didn't let them pull away though, entering the break at 40-36.

UW-Whitewater kept pace with the Storm due to their offensive rebounding. The Warhawks grabbed eight offensive boards in the first half. However, the eight boards only accounted for seven second-chance points, as the Warhawks shot 15-for-33 from the field & 2-for-10 from deep.

Luke Bara (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego) opened the second half with a three-pointer for the Warhawks to cut the lead down to just one-point. But Simpson answered with a 13-4 run, quickly extending their lead.

Simpson kept their lead from the free-throw line, going 12-for-13 from the charity stripe in the second frame. The Storm lead grew to as much as 19-points, but the Warhawks ended the game on a 6-0 run to narrow the margin.

Bara led the Warhawks in the scoring column with a season-high of 18 points. Bara hit four three pointers on his way to led the Warhawks.

Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) chipped in 16 points of his own, going 6-for-7 from the free throw line in his 25 minutes of play. Isaac Verges (Franklin, Wis.) rounded out scoring with 10 points.

The Warhawks were without leading rebounder, Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./), but Brock Marino (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) and Collin Madson (Mukwonago, Wis./) worked together to clean the glass, recording 8 and 6 rebounds, respectively.

UW-Whitewater will look to bounce back in their final non-conference game of the season. The Warhwaks face Ripon College at 1 PM on New Year's Eve at home.
