Box Score The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team opened the Daytona Beach Shootout with a 76-50 win over Anna Maria Friday afternoon in Florida.
The Warhawks were efficient from the opening tip shooting 62.5% in the opening quarter. By the break, UWW build a 12-point advantage 38-26 bolstered by a 24-8 sway in points off turnovers. The Warhawks forced 18 turnovers including tallying 14 steals in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
UW-Whitewater continued to widen the gap through the third. Midway through the quarter,
Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) knocked down triples on two successive possessions to extend the lead to 27.
Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) followed with back-to-back fast break layups to push the margin to 31, 63-32. Those four buckets capped a 14-0 run for the Warhawks. Despite a scoring drought for the last 3:08 of the third, UW-Whitewater outscored Anna Maria 25-11 in the period to hold a 63-37 lead heading into the fourth.
An even 13-13 fourth led to the final. UWW forced 32 turnovers in the contest outscoring Anna Maria 41-8 in points off miscues. The Warhawks also held a hefty advantage in points in the paint, 50-10.
Mallory Oloffson (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) had a phenomenal outing hitting all five of her shots from the field for 12 points in 17 minutes of action. She added a steal, a block and a pair of rebounds.
Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was a single rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and 9 boards on 5-8 from the field. She added five steals and four assists to her stat line for the game.
Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) also hit double digits with 10 points in the game while
Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) chipped in nine on 4-5 from the floor. Trautsch matched Carollo's five steals and four assists.
The now 8-1 Warhawks will wrap up the Daytona Beach Shootout tomorrow against Lycoming College. Tipoff is set for 2 PM EST.
