The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team competed in both the Roger Williams Invite in Rhode Island and the Luther Open in Iowa Saturday. The Warhawks finished second in a 12-team field at RWU bolstered by a first-place finish from Evan Onstad (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) in the 141-pound bracket. 

UWW had 27 wrestlers in action Saturday with 16 competing in Rhode Island and 11 at the Luther Open. In total, Warhawk wrestlers registered 17 falls, 10 technical falls and 11 major decisions on the day. At the Roger Williams Invite, UWW tallied a gold and silver, five bronze, three fourth-place finishes and a sixth overall. 

Onstad paced the Warhawks at the RWU Invite going 5-0 on the day. He registered a fall in 2:47 in an early round. In the 141-pound championship bout, Onstad defeated Castleton's James Rodriguez in a thrilling tiebreaker (2-2 TB-2). Aden Byal (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) added a runner-up finish in the 157-pound bracket going 3-1 Saturday. The five third-place finishers included Luke Berktold (Libertyville, Ill.) (125), Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) (141), Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) (165), Brayden Peet (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) (174) and Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) (184).

Gage Decker (Mahomet, Ill.) led the Warhawks at the Luther Open with a seventh-place finish in the 165-pound silver bracket. Jonah Edwards (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) was the top UWW finisher in the elite brackets taking eighth at 133 pounds. Logan Kawa (Owen, Wis.) added a second eighth-place finish in the 174-pound silver bracket.
