UW-Whitewater was represented by 22 wrestlers competing in the CUW Open hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday. The Warhawks were led by top five finishes from Evan Onstad (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township), Jalin Conner (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech), Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) and Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union). 

The 22 UWW wrestlers combined for 17 falls, 7 technical falls and 11 major decisions in over 80 bouts wrestled on the day. Onstad opened the day with a major decision in the 141-pound bracket. After a pair of technical falls, he punched his ticket to the title bout with a high-scoring 17-14 decision in the semis. He fell to Wartburg's Kyler Romero by 15-4 major decision in the championship. Fortugno also wrestled in the 141-pound bracket Saturday, finishing fourth. He registered three falls on the day including his fastest of 55 seconds that opened the competition. 

Conner went 4-2 on the day with four extra point victories to finish fourth at 149 pounds. He opened with a technical fall and followed with a fall in 3:42. Fortugno registered a major decision win in the quarterfinal and secured his spot in the third place bout with another major. Danowski also went 4-2 to capture fourth. He opened the day with back-to-back major decisions and advanced to the third place match with an exciting 9-6 sudden victory win later in the day.
