The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team was dominant in a 40-5 win over UW-Stevens Point in Whitewater Friday night.
The Warhawks opened with a forfeit win as
Jalen Dunson (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) secured the first six points for UWW at 125 pounds.
Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) followed with a 17-2 technical fall victory over Aidan Fonder. He ended the match in just 4:53 to extend the lead to 11-0.
At 141 pounds,
Evan Onstad (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) racked up the takedowns on Riese Thornberry to pick up a technical fall in 6:20.
Jalin Conner (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) made it three consecutive techs with a 15-0 (6:12) win over Maddox Rye to widen the gap to 21-0.
Luke Swan (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) added a fifth straight extra point victory with a 9-1 major decision over Nico Pelusi at 157 pounds.
The Pointers staved off the shutout with Josh Heuss' 4-2 decision over
Aden Byal (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) at 165 pounds to bring the match score to 25-3.
Brayden Peet (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) responded for the Warhawks at 174 pounds. Up a weight class from a season ago, Peet registered the fall in 5:19 over Carson Trotzer to add six to the UWW total.
Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) followed with a thrilling bout at 184 pounds. Kohel held a 5-4 lead late in the third over Easton Hull but a last second escape sent the match in overtime. Just a few seconds in, Kohel tallied the takedown for the 8-5 decision. UW-Stevens Point had a point deducted for misconduct in the bout to make the score 34-2.
At 197 pounds,
Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) posted UWW's second fall of the night. The ref's hand hit the mat with 18 seconds left on the clock as Danowski registered the fall over Logan Neitzel in 6:42.
The final bout of the evening went the Pointers' way with Blake Flach defeating
Jordan Lewis (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) by 8-1 decision for the 40-5 final.
UW-Whitewater will be back on the mat against UW-Eau Claire Wednesday at 7 PM in Kachel Gym.
