The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team survived in the final minutes, closing the game from the charity stripe in the final seconds. The Warhawks sweep the season series against the Titans for the first team since the 2015-16 season.
Both teams were slow to start offensively, but Oshkosh had the slight edge, leading 14-4 after 7-minutes of action. Down by 10, the Warhawks found an offensive spark, spurting out an 11-1 run to tie the game at 15 a piece. After the Warhawks tied it, the game was back and forth for the rest of the half, with neither team gaining a footing on the game.
The Warhawks led by as much as three points in the final few minutes of the half, but UW-Oshkosh was able to flip the score, finishing the last minute with a 6-0 run to enter halftime up three points.
To open up the second half, The Warhawks pushed out in front, with an 8-0 run to take the lead 46-40. The Warhawks held the lead for most of the second half, but UW-Oshkosh closed down the gap with about 3 minutes left in the contest.Â
The Titans put together their own 8-point run to take a one-point lead with 2:21 on the clock.
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) reclaimed the lead on the next possession, but a fast break Oshkosh dunk on the other end gave the Titans back the lead and a huge momentum boost.Â
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) hushed the crowed after the dunk, nailing a huge three-pointer that gave the Warhawks the two-point lead, 64-62. Oshkosh tied it on the next possession, with the game clock reading 35-seconds.Â
With a 5-second difference between the shot and game clock, the Warhawks slowed down the offense to give the Titans as little time as possible.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) was called on yet again for the dagger, but his shot hit off the glass perfectly into the hand of
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's). Lambert was fouled on his way up giving him two shots at the free throw line. He nailed them both, giving the Warhawks a 68-66 lead with only six-seconds left.
Oshkosh was unable to get a clean shot off in that time, with the Warhawks picking up the two-point victory.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) came alive in the second half. After only 5 points in the first, Barnstable finished with a game-high 22 points, making 5 three pointers in the win. Â
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) added in 16 points of his own, and led the team in assists (5) and steals (3).Â
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) rounded out the double-digit scorers, picking up 11 points.
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) pulled down a team high nine rebounds, including the crucial offensive rebound, to go along with his 6 points.Â
UW-Oshkosh was led by Carter Thomas with 19 points.Â
The men's basketball team will return home, looking for revenge against UW-Stout. The Blue Devils took the last meeting by one-point on a buzzer beat. Tip-off is set for 5 PM in Kachel Gym.
