Warhawks Force 30 Turnovers in Lopsided Win over UWEC

The #4 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball kept active on defense to force 30 turnovers in a WIAC conference win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon.

The Warhawks showed their defensive prowess holding the Blugolds to 10 or less points in three of the four quarters on top of forcing the thirty turnovers. UW-Whitewater also dominated on the glass, collecting 50 rebounds to UW-Eau Claire's 37.

The Warhawks showed the Blugolds how the game was going to go in just the first quarter. In the first 10 minutes, the Warhawks forced 8 turnovers, and got active on the glass, pulling down 10 offensive boards alone.

The second quarter was similar, with more Blugold turnovers and more Warhawk offensive rebounds. At the mid-point of the first quarter, the Warhawks had put together a 11-0 run to give themselves a 20-point lead.

The Warhawks entered halftime up 18-36, and came out of the break with another run to extend the lead to 24-points. The Warhawks kept the foot on the glass, taking their biggest lead of the game at 32-points with just 4-minutes left in the fourth.

Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) led the Warhawks in scoring and rebounding with 16-points and 8 rebounds. Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) added 11 points of her own. Carollo and Brianna McCurdy each dished out 4 assists. Maggie Traustch rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points.

UW-Eau Claire was led by Kylie Mogen with 15 points and 6 blocks.

UW-Whitewater will return home for their next game, taking on #18 UW-Oshkosh in their second meeting of the season. The top two teams in the WIAC will meet on January 31st at 7 PM.
