The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team fell to UW-La Crosse 29-7 on the road Thursday night.

The Warhawks are ranked twelfth in the latest dual meet rankings released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Eagles are ranked third. 

Jalen Dunson (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park River Forest), ranked ninth individually, opened the dual in La Crosse with a major decision at 125 pounds. Dunson registered a pair of takedowns in the first period. In the second, he added to his lead with a takedown and two-point nearfall. Dunson added a reversal in the third for a 14-6 major decision over Quintin Wolbert. 

John Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) followed with another win at 133 pounds to give UWW a 7-0 lead. Fortugno opened the thrilling bout with a takedown early in the first. UWL's Zachary Weiler registered a reversal but Fortugno escaped. He escaped another Weiler takedown before the end of the first. Choosing the bottom position, Fortugno added points for a pair of escapes and a takedown to take a 10-8 lead into the third. Fortugno had the top position and nearly rode out the period but a stalling and escape just before the end of the bout knotted the match 10-10. Fortugno has accumulated enough riding time to tally a point and win the 133 class 11-10. 

The Eagles took the rest of the bouts for the final.
