The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team made its return to the diamond for the first time since their spring trip in Clermont Thursday. The Warhawks picked up a pair of wins on the road defeating Rockford 10-3 and 11-3 (6 innings).
UWW scored in 9 of 13 innings blasting 27 hits while plating 21 runs in the twinbill.
The Warhawks opened the scoring Thursday capitalizing on a Regent miscue that brought in the first run of the game in the top of the second.
Taylor Koehler (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) gave UWW its second run of the frame on a RBI infield single.
Meghan Dunning (Plainfield, Ill./South) tripled to right center and Koehler notched another RBI single as UWW plated two more in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
In the sixth,
Kendall Pliner (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) added a pair to the Warhawk total with a two-RBI single up the middle to extend the gap to 6-2.
UW-Whitewater registered four runs in the seventh as Koehler added another two-RBI single,
Sophia Kinjerski (Maribel, Wis./Denmark) tagged a run-scoring hit up the middle and
Sydney Anderson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) posted a RBI single down the right field line to make it 10-3.
Koehler was phenomenal in the batter's box with a perfect 4-4 performance driving in four runs and scoring once.
Brooke Hock (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was credited with the win after tossing three innings of one-hit ball in relief. She fanned six without issuing a walk.
The Warhawks jumped out to a huge lead in the second game putting up a six-spot in the top of the first. UWW tallied six hits in the frame bolstered by a
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) two-RBI triple to right center.
UWW went on to score in the next three innings before adding another run in the sixth for the eight-run gap.
Wickman was 3-3 at the plate with a double and a triple, a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
Mallory Hollatz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) picked up her first win of the season. She threw the final two innings allowing two hits while striking out three.
