The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team swept UW-Eau Claire in a twinbill at the van Steenderen Softball Complex Tuesday afternoon. The Warhawks took the opener 5-4 and the nightcap 4-1.

The Warhawks came back from a three-run deficit to top the Blugolds in the opener. UW-Eau Claire got on the board in the top of the second via an RBI groundout. UWEC added two more in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead in the contest.

Kiarra Kostroski (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) singled to center field in the bottom of the fourth to get the Warhawks on the board and spark a run for UWW.
Meghan Dunning (Plainfield, Ill./South) followed with a single to right center that drove in two more to knot the game 3-3 after four complete.

In the top of the sixth, the Blugolds capitalized on a Warhawk miscue to reclaim the lead 4-3.

Kostroski got things going for UWW in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff that dropped between two UWEC infielders.
Delaney Becker (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) followed with a bender that fell inside the right field line as Kostroski motored to third. With runners on the corners, Dunning capitalized with the Warhawks' third consecutive hit, this one a single through the left side that plated the tying run. Following a pitching change for the Blugolds.
Maddie Koenings (West Bend, Wis./West) drew a walk to load the bases and
Krista Sbarra (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) singled through the left side to bring in another UWW run and give the Warhawks a 5-4 lead.

The UW-Whitewater defense held in the top of the seventh to seal the 5-4 win. Sbarra, Kostroski and Dunning all registered a pair of hits in the game combining for all five RBI.

In the circle,
Brooke Hock (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) picked up her eighth win of the season in 1.2 innings of relief. She struck out two while allowing a single hit to improve to 8-0.

The Blugolds took the early lead with a single run in the top of the first but the Warhawks would hold them scoreless the rest of the way.

Sydney Anderson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) tied the game on a single to right center that plated
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) in the bottom of the second. In the third,
Taylor Koehler (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) doubled in Sbarra and then Anderson wrapped up the scoring with a shot up the middle that plated two more for the 4-1 lead.

Anderson led UWW at the plate going 2-3 with three RBI. Koenings was also 2-3 in the batter's box in the game.

Rhiann Dick (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) pitched a gem to pick up the win. In 5.1 innings of work, she allowed four hits while striking out four. Hock came in for the final 1.2 innings to register the save, her third of the season.
