Eight Warhawks will represent the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at the 2023 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships hosted by Winona State University Saturday, March 25.
Championship Central
Sophomore Kara Welsh (Plainfield, Ill./Central) (Vault and Floor Exercise), enters the competition ranked first in the nation with the highest Season Average Score (SAS) in Division III on the vault. Welsh also qualified on the floor exercise after a solid season scoring a 9.6 or better in every competition.Â
Freshman Carleigh Moore (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) (Vault and Floor Exercise), will make her NCGA Nationals debut after a phenomenal freshman campaign making a tremendous impact in both the vault and floor lineups for the Warhawks.Â
Sophomore Richella Velarmino (Bonney Lake, Wash./John R. Rogers) (Uneven Bars) had a fantastic season, leading the Warhawks in almost every meet on the uneven bars. Her consistency throughout the season helped her qualify for the national meet.Â
Junior Estee Flom (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) (Uneven Bars) will also make her NCGA Nationals debut after suffering an injury last year that held her out of the competition. Flom averaged a 9.492 this year on the event and recorded a season and career high of a 9.75 earlier this year.Â
Freshman Elaine Copeland (Arlington, Texas/University Prep) (Uneven Bars) joins Moore and Flom in her first NCGA National experience. Copeland placed third at the WIAC Championship and was the highest scoring Warhawk in the event.Â
Junior Sarah Knetzke (Ozark, Mo./Springfield Catholic) (Balance Beam) returns to the national stage after earning an eighth-place finish at the WIAC Championship. Knetzke was solid all season, averaging a 9.525 and earning a career high of 9.85 earlier this season.Â
Junior Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) (Floor Exercise) enters the competition after winning the title at the WIAC Championships. Kollhoff never scored below a 9.65 this season and placed first in four out of the five competitions she entered.Â
Senior Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) (Floor Exercise) will compete her best event one last time at nationals. Mylin averaged a 9.729 this season and placed fourth at the WIAC Championship.Â
