Warhawk Men Cap Regular Season with Big Win, Will Host First Round of WIAC Tournament

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team capped the regular season with an 82-62 win over UW-Platteville in Kachel Gymnasium Wednesday. The win secured the number three seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the Warhawks slated to begin next week.

UW-Whitewater will open play in the WIAC Tournament with a home game against six-seeded UW-River Falls Monday, February 20. If UWW wins Monday, they advance to face the number two seed, UW-La Crosse, on the road Wednesday, February 22. The other first round game features fifth-seeded UW-Platteville at the four seed, UW-Eau Claire with the winner advancing to face top-seeded UW-Oshkosh in the semifinal. The WIAC Tournament Championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed Friday, February 24 at 7 p.m.

Wednesday's game was a bit of a back-and-forth battle in the first half, but the Warhawks gradually pulled away in the second. UWW was efficient in the first 20 minutes of action knocking down 59-percent of their shots from the floor to open up an eight-point, 43-35, lead at the intermission.

On the other side of the break, UWP cut the lead to four but the Warhawks responded with an old-fashioned three-point play from Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) followed by a fastbreak layup from Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) to make it 50-41 with just under 17 to go.

The margin hovered between 8-11 over the next nearly six minutes of play until a Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) free throw gave UWW a double figure cushion that would only grow the rest of the way leading to the 20-point final margin.

Chislom was on fire Wednesday hitting 8-10 from the floor and 6-7 from the charity stripe for 22 points. He added three rebounds, a block and an assist. Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) dropped in 18 adding five boards. Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) posted 13 points and Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) rounded out the double-digit scorers for UWW with 12.
