Wrestlers Cruise to Lopsided Win over Titans

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team cruised to lopsided 51-6 win over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon.

The Warhawks won four bouts by forfeit, two by fall and three by technical fall in the victory. UWW started off with a 12-0 lead before any action occurred. Jonah Edwards (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and John Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) won the 125 and 133 pound weight classes by forfeit to start the dual.

Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) was the first Warhawk to face an opponent. In his 141 pound bout against Andrew Schad, Fortugno registered a quick takedown before letting his opponent up and again shooting for a takedown. After another escape and a takedown, Fortugno advanced his position to gain back points with a four-point nearfall. A takedown in the second period stopped the bout early as riding time gave Fortugno a win by technical fall, 18-2, in 3:21.

Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) followed the same tactic in his 149 pound match against Ira Schlottke. Busse tallied five takedowns in the first period before pinning Schlottke in 1:07.

At 157 pounds, Jermaine Butler (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) posted a pair of takedowns that led to four-point nearfalls in the first period. He added a third takedown early in the second for a victory by technical fall, 19-3, in 3:29.

Brayden Peet (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) added wins by forfeit at 165 and 174 pounds respectively to give UWW a 40-0 lead.

Ryan Riser (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) continued the philosophy of going for quick takedowns, allowing an escape and going right back on the offensive. He registered six takedowns to defeat Michael Loger by technical fall, 20-4, in 4:25 at 184 pounds.

At 197 pounds, Ryan Rambo (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) posted a quick takedown and continued to work for an opening. He was dominant eventually pinning Landon Saglin in 2:33.

In the final bout of the day, Cadin Koeppel (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) lost to Camden Harms by fall in 2:52.
