The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball remained undefeated with a 73-45 win over Wheaton College in Kachel Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Bri McCurdy (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) set the tone with a three-pointer right out of the gate. A 7-2 run over the next few minutes gave the Warhawks a 10-2 advantage. With 2:26 left in the first period, the lead hit double digits, 18-8, on
Kacie Carollo's (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) driving layin.
Lunden Alexander (Dolton, Ill./Thornwood) hit a pair of free throws with 1:27 left to make it 20-11 for the final points of the first.
Carollo scored the first six points of the second quarter to extend the margin to 26-11 and the Warhawks would hold a double figure lead the rest of the way.
Twenty-one Warhawks saw the floor with 12 entering the scoring column. UW-Whitewater shot over 45-percent from the floor while holding Wheaton to under 30-percent from the field.
Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) led UWW with 15 points on 7-14 from the floor. She added seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Carollo dropped in 14 points on 6-10 from the field. She was one rebound shy of a double-double while adding six assists and four blocks.
Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.
