The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team fell to No. 3 UW-Eau Claire 25-14 Thursday night in Eau Claire.

The Warhawks won four of the first five bouts of the night but the Blugolds use a series of bonus-point wins in the final three weight classes to turn the tide.

Jonah Edwards (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) got the Warhawks going with a 3-0 win over Carter Schulz at 125 pounds. He set the tone with a takedown just 11 seconds into the contest and held his opponent at bay the rest of the way.

Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), ranked ninth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association, followed with a win over top-ranked Tyler Fleetwood at 133 pounds. Mallinder won by 7-1 decision bolstered by a four-point nearfall in the second period to give UWW a 6-0 lead in the match.

Ethan Pogorzelski (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) continued to add points to the team total with a close 4-3 decision at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, UW-Eau Claire got on the board as No. 5 Zach Sato topped
Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) 7-0.

Jermaine Butler (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) responded for the Warhawks with a dominant win at 157 pounds over the Blugolds' Jan Hernandez-Soto. Butler accumulated 15 points with a takedown and three four-point nearfalls in the first period to give UWW a 14-3 lead in the match.

After a brief intermission, the Blugolds picked up a decision at 165 as No. 11 Tristan Massie narrowly defeated No. 15
Brayden Peet (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) 5-3. UWEC followed with back-to-back falls to take its first lead of the match. At 174 pounds, No. 2 Jared Stricker pinned
Buddy Evangelista (Wheaton, Ill./North) in 4:45 before No. 7 Niall Shoenfelder caught No. 12
Ryan Riser (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) out of position and registered the pin as the buzzer sounded for an official time of 5:00.
