The #7-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Men's basketball team (8-1) put together a huge run in the second half against the Marian Sabres (0-10) to pull out the road victory on Monday night.
The tip-off the night, the Warhawks quickly jumped out to a 17-point lead, going up 26-9 at the under 8-media. They extended their lead to as much as 19 (33-14 at 4:49 left in the half) before Marian slowly chipped away at the score. In the final 4-minutes of the half, UW-Whitewater was held to just one-point, with Marian closing the gap to 10-points at the break (34-24).
To open up the second-half, Marian looked to make the game interesting, going on a 11-3 run of their own. With 15 minutes on the clock, the Sabres were within striking distance of taking the lead.
The Warhawks didn't let the close game rattle them, going on a 37-7 run over the next 10 minutes. UW-Whitewater put on a shooting clinic, making 11 of 16 shots in that span, and only turning the ball over once. On the defensive end, the Warhawks didn't allow easy shots, with only one Marian field goal in the 10 minutes.
After the run, the Warhawks regained a comfortable lead and closed out the game with an 80-47 road victory.
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led all scorers, putting up 21 points with 3 three-pointers.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) added 13 points to the Warhawk total, with
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) chipping in 11. Barker also dished out 4 assists in the contest.
The Warhawks won the rebound battle handily, led by Chislom with nine rebounds and
James Kelley (Milwaukee, WI/St. John's Northwestern Military Academy) with 7. Kelley also recorded an impressive three blocks, protecting the rim against the Sabres.
The Warhawks return to action on December 29th and 30th, heading to River Falls for the Radisson Holiday Classic. Men's hoops take on North Central (Minn.) on Friday followed by Northland College on Saturday.Â
