Warhawk Wrestlers fall to Cardinals

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (#23) wrestlers had a tough match against a top-ranked North Central Cardinals (#11) team. NCC got the better of the Warhawks, winning the dual 24-11.

The first match of the night was a match-up against two of the best wrestlers in the 141 weight class. UWW's Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) (#9) and NCC's Bradley Rosen (#15) started the dual off quickly, with Rosen getting a takedown halfway through the first. Fortugno would pick up two reversals in the second period, but Rosen battled things out, picking up the 8-4 decision.

The Warhawks looked to bounced back in the next match. Scott Busse (Chicago, Ill./Lake Zurich) (#23) pulled out a major decision win over NCC's Tyler Starr, 19-5. Busse recorded five takedowns over the match.

Brayden Peet (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) (#20) also picked up a major decision win, defeating NCC's Armando Murillo, 8-0. Peet recorded a takedown with only 8-seconds left on the clock to give the Warhawks an extra team point with the MD.

The 285-match was an exiting one too. UWW's Cadin Koeppel (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) was matched up against a top-20 wrestler in NCC's Robby Bates (#15). Bates picked up a point on stalling late in the match to force overtime, where NCC got the takedown for the sudden victory point.

In the last match of the night Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) (#10) picked up the decision against NCC's Joshua Robinson. Robinson nearly came back after an early escape, but a takedown by Mallinder sealed the deal.
